Blogging to make money – Part 1

So I’ve been wanting to do this for quite a while now, and now that I’m clearing my plate of a lot of work I thought now would be the perfect time to get a little more serious about blogging.

Get yourself setup

As a quick overview of where my blog is at the moment:

The blog uses Wordpress 2.8.4 as the base (at time of writing). If you don’t have a blog setup yet, Wordpress is my recommendation

You can host your own version by grabbing the code from here (recommended)
Or you can host your blog at wordpress.com if you want a cheap and quick option

While I have a few niche articles already on this blog that are attracting a few hits, when it comes down to it, this blog is pretty bare and without direction at the moment, but that’s all about to change.

Pretty it up a bit

First of all, the site is in need of a new design and instead of forking out the cash for a custom design and build, I’ll be searching around for a nice, neat design to use, while there’s literally hundreds of out there that can showcase the creme de la creme, here’s a few that I went through looking for what best matched what I wanted to portray.

I opted to go with a template from http://themeforest.net for the pure reason that I know less people will have this template due to having to pay for it. At a later date I may have a custom design made up, but for now this will serve me quite well.

What’s next?

In the next article, I’ll put forward how and where to get inspiration on what you can write about. In the mean time though, you have some homework to do, go get your base blog setup.
